LINDA HELLER CERAMICS

In 2014, at the age of 70 I began making ceramics and found it to be the perfect medium for my storytelling. In 2016 and 2017, I attended month long ceramic residencies at Watershed in Newcastle Maine. I spent the month of June 2018 at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, participating in self-directed learning. I had a three-month ceramic residency at La Meridiana in Certaldo, Italy in 2019 and planned to spend April and May 2020 at Guldagergaad in Skaelskor, Denmark but had to cancel because of the coronavirus. I had a one-month residency at the Faenza Art Center for Ceramics in June 2023 where I focused on my figurative work and studied the art of majolica. I have just completed a three-month residency at FACC. My task this time was to place my figures in an environment that further expressed their situation. At the end of my stay, I exhibited my work at a two-person show sponsored by Ente Ceramica Faenza with support from FACC. Claudia Casali, the director of the Museum of Internation Ceramics in Faenza, visited the show and said she found my work very passionate and poetic. Collections: Sung Jae Choi, Jeremy R. Anderson Juried Shows: About Fear, Plaxall Gallery, Long Island City, New York, The Cup, The Mug, Main Street Arts, Clifton Springs, New York, The Utility Art Show, Catskill Center, Arkville, Love Versus, Faenza Italy
I made this work between 2022 and 2024 in New York City and Faenza Italy

I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a B.F.A. in illustration and worked as an animator. My animated film ALBUM was shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the Venice Biennale. I have written and illustrated sixteen children’s books. My books received the Parents Choice Award, the Bank Street Award, and the Sydney Taylor Award. The Castle on Hester Street is part of the third-grade curriculum nationwide. I received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Fiction and have many stories published in literary magazines but ceramics has become my main love.
